Over the past two decades, credit card use has skyrocketed and with this increased usage has come increased problems. Nearly half of all credit card holders will experience problems with skyrocketing interest rates, credit limit reduction, or making minimum payments at some point this year. People are discovering that they are in over their heads with credit card debt and have no clue how to remedy the situation. Finding solutions to credit card issues can be difficult, but following these simple tips can help you manage your credit card use effectively.
Reduce Number Of Credit Cards Held
The average consumer has multiple credit cards from different credit card companies that they carry with them on a regular basis. Multiple credit cards raises the chances of making a payment late, which can result in penalty charges of $35 or more and raise the interest rates for the credit card to the maximum amount allowed by law. If you have more than three credit cards, try to pay off the ones with the lowest credit limits or most restrictions and close the accounts.
Pay Off High Balances
High balances on multiple credit cards can be a severe drain on your finances. It can be difficult paying at least the minimum balances on each card and keeping track of progress can be discouraging. Transferring the balances of each credit card to a single credit account can make the process simpler by reducing your obligation to single payment and progress can easily be seen when paying off the balance. Many credit card companies are still offering low interest rates on balance transfers, so transferring the balances may save you money in interest charges as well.
Credit Limit Reduction
Many credit card companies are reducing the high limits previously offers on certain credit cards to reduce the amount of risk they are exposed to if the account holder defaults on the payments. This typically happens without much warning to the consumer and can negatively affect various aspects of the person’s life, including decreased purchasing power and lower credit scores. The only solution is to pay down the credit card to less than 50% of the available credit. This will return your credit score to its previous level and may allow you to obtain additional credit from other lenders.

Credit card fraud is when somebody uses your credit card without your authorization. This could happen in many ways:
* When your card has been stolen
* If your card was swiped twice for the same amount
* If your card was used by Internet hackers
* If your card was used without your knowledge by your children/ spouse/ friends who have access to you purse or handbag
One of the easiest ways to prevent such fraud – or at least keep it to a minimum – is to have the provider send you SMS alerts on your cell phone every time your card is charged.
This has two benefits :
(1) it keeps a close tab on your balance available, and
(2) it will alert you whenever your card is used.
In case you find that your card has been used without authorization, you can immediately alert your bank and the police regarding the credit card fraud in progress. It’

It’s a new day for credit cards.
As of today, many of the rules of the credit card game have changed. New consumer protections against surprise interest-rate hikes, over-limit fees and easy credit for young people have taken effect through the Credit CARD (Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure) Act of 2009.
Depending on your perspective, the law is a boon for American families who will save perhaps billions by avoiding unnecessary credit card interest payments and fees, or a bust for banks that will lose billions because they’ll no longer be so free to impose those charges.
- Calculate your credit score in minutes
The biggest consumer benefit from the new law: If you have outstanding credit card balances, the interest rates on those amounts are protected from “any time, any reason” rate hikes. Cardholders and consumer groups complained the most about this longstanding card industry practice because interest-rate hikes could be applied retroactively to purchases made earlier.

When something is misunderstood the results can be catastrophic. Misunderstandings usually come with miscommunication and it could’ve been avoided. There are common misconceptions about a credit card. The first would be that a credit card rate stays the same. This is not true because as credit card companies watch how you spend and pay your monthly payments they might see that you missed a payment and this, consequently, changes your interest rate. The future might hold more fixed rate companies but for now you need to keep an eye on your modified rates. An

Those low, low monthly minimum payments no longer will be an excuse.
Under the credit card reform law that starts to kick in Feb. 22, credit card issuers must put the bad news right upfront on your monthly bills:
If you make only the minimum payment each period, you will pay more in interest, and it will take you longer to pay off your balance.
And then they have to show you the math, such as how many months’ worth of minimum payments it would take to reduce your balance to zero and how much you would save in interest by paying off the balance in 36 months.
That’s one of many changes coming to your credit card accounts and statements courtesy of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009. You’re going to have new protections, and the card companies will have fewer opportunities to take advantage of you. Some of the first changes you’ll notice will be on your monthly statements.

Should you apply for a prepaid credit card or a bad credit card? Either way it doesn’t matter to your acceptance, because you will be accepted for either as long as you haven’t totally shot your credit by not keeping to even a bad credit card agreement. Believe it or not, some do this!
Most people have lost their credit card because they couldn’t keep up the payments. Most people also wish they could have a second chance, because they have learned their lesson. I know, because I was one of these people. I had 12 credit cards at one time, and was behind in my payments on all of them. Even though I had court judgments against me on some of these, and came to a low monthly payment agreement on others, I was still able to get a bad credit card and a prepaid credit card was also offered to me by several firms.
Until I had none left, I did not realize how important a credit card was to modern life. Try making a hotel booking online or by telephone without a credit or debit card.
